It is amazing to see how such a young boy can feel so strongly about something. This boy has a strong belief for what he believes in and with his words, you can see how passionate he is about it. He sounds like he is a grown man, but the powerful words are only coming from an eleven year old. He has the ambition to get up in front of crowds, probably being the youngest one there, and speak on what he feels in wrong. His passion for creating change is something to admire and strive for.
This 11 year old boy is truly amazing. He is so young and is accomplishing so much. This goes to show that it does not matter who you are or how old you are to persuade people to believe in what you believe in. The only thing that counts is what kind of words you use and what kind of strategies you incorporate into the speech. The techniques that he uses is well thought out word choice, good examples and even singing to get his point across. Another thing that this boy has is passion. It is easy to tell that he is passionate about this issue and that he knows almost everything about the topic. When you sound like you know what your talking about, people will consider you legitimate and believe in what you say. Credibility is very important in a persuasive speech. There are four ways that I will motivate change in my listeners. I am going to use cognitive dissonance; I will tell the listeners the problems that exists with their currently held beliefs. I will keep in mind the listeners needs. This way the listeners will think that the speech is to help them out and they will respond more positively to the message. I will also use positive and negative motivation to change their current way of thinking into what I want them to believe.
The video about the 11 year old boy's motivation and drive to have the "N" word banned is inspiring. This is so because he is young and so determined. It truly demonstrates how the impact of the video affects so many more individuals that we think, both young and old. He carries a very strong speech for his purpose and it is evident through his personal interview as well as the short clips from his speech that he gave regarding it. His techniques through the entire video clip were pretty convincing, it certainly made me rethink my opinion about the topic. He was straight forward with his purpose, articulated, had good facts and examples to back up his points. He establishes his credibility by speaking about the amount of research and background information he had on the topic so that he could address his point in a clearer manner. He addressed what was flawed in the topic in order to make the audience think about it and analyze themselves to realize whether they should use the term themselves or not. All of these methods truly made it into a powerful and well thought out speech.
This 11 year old boy has such a great grasp on injustices going on in this world that most people don't even think is a big deal when in fact it is. This young boy is very passionate about this topic and is driven to obliterate the “n” word from society. Seeing that he is such a good speaker and is passionate about his topic and brings it through his words I’m sure he can drive his beliefs across the globe. He easily motivates change in his audience by sounding so grown up and professional and by using strong words and phrases. I have great respect for this young man because he knows what he’s talking about and has reasoning to back up his beliefs. This young boy is out to make a change and I think he will achieve his goal.
After watching this video, I was truely inspired. It is incredible that an eleven year old boy can have such an impact and hold such strong values at a young age. You can tell he knows exactly what he wants and I feel he could get there with the way he speaks, as well as his knowledge that stands out so strongly. I hope that when I give my speech, I sound just as wonderful as he did; he truely inspired me.
Jonathan is astonishing! He’s like a grown man in a little kids body. He is strong and confident in what he is saying and in what he believes and that is a big part of being persuasive. If you don’t believe in yourself then the audience or anybody else for that matter wont either. Jonathan did his research on the “N” word and stated the true definition of the word and how it is being misused in society today. He also showed deep passion for the ban in the “N” word by having people sign a petition to abolish it. This little genius also gave an example of how a woman in Georgia was beaten and called the “N” word. Jonathan was passionate about the ban of the “N” word and even moved me a bit. The wildest part about the whole thing is that he is only 11.
Jonathan McCoy is eleven years old and he has an issue that he is very passionate about. Jonathan dislikes the “N” word, period; whether it is used in the modern way or if it is used to describe African Americans back in the day. He feels that the “N” word is derogatory. He also does not like the fact that rappers use the word. Rappers are very influential people and people all over the World try to emulate their style, words etc. In the interview with Don Lemon, Jonathan shows he is passionate by looking directly into Don’s eyes while he is answering and being asked questions. Jonathan does not take a long time with his responses. He has a good posture when discussing his passion about the “N” word. Jonathan also adds credibility to his reasoning when he ties in the story about the African American mother and her daughter in Georgia. Jonathan is only eleven and carries himself well on National TV about the “N” word abolishment. I am impressed by this interview and it shows that anyone can speak up and stand behind what they are passionate about.
Whenever you are speaking about something that you are passionate about you should speak with confidence and poise. It is a known fact that if you are unsure about what you want then you cannot expect others to be sure of it either. One thing I’ve noticed throughout my life is whenever I’ve listened to someone speak on an issue that they felt strongly about, if they were one-hundred percent confident in their delivery and reasoning I had an easier time believing them. A few strategies that I feel could help me in the delivery of this upcoming speech are good research and confident delivery. While watching this eleven year old boy speak about abolishing the “N Word” I noticed that he was well researched on this issue. The fact that he spoke so eloquently also helped in his persuasion because it showed that he was well educated. He also spoke with great passion both in his voice and his body language. These are all qualities of someone who is good at persuading others through speech. I will keep all of these things in mind when it comes to preparing my persuasive speech because I know I will benefit greatly if I do.

I am pretty sure that kid was one of the brightest young children I have ever seen. He spoke with such precise articulation, and was able to comprehend what the interviewer was saying. I would not be surprised if that kid grew up to be some kind of politician or something of that manner. When it comes to his persuasive power, I would consider him to be very persuasive for how young he is. Although the support for his claims was not significantly powerful, he spoke with such conviction that it did not need to be. He made me realize that charisma is very important in convincing an audience, and I will be sure to do my speech on something I truly believe in. I thought the way he avoided nervousness was pretty interesting. He just pretended like he was talking to one or two people, and he overcame the anxiety of talking to a gigantic number of people. That is what I try to do, and it usually works. I really enjoy the idea that a child that young can be that well spoken in a society that demeans the importance of education at that age.
At the age of eleven I was not worried at all about things that were happening in the world. I was only worried about me, myself, and I. I wanted to go to sleepovers, and eat candy for breakfast lunch and dinner. Looking at this video of this eleven year old boy and his desire to change is moving.
Jonathan McCoy has the passion to ban the “N” word from all of the media and entertainment. He came about with this inspiring movement by trying to find a topic for a speech competition in Baltimore, Maryland. As he was in the shower he thought of other words that meant the word black and came across the “N” word and looked it up. At the age of eleven I still didn’t even know how to use the library and for him to go and research a topic that is so grand is mindboggling. He wrote a speech himself that persuaded people to join him in stop using the “N” word. This word means a person who is “economically, politically, or socially disfranchised” and this definition I did not even know about until this eleven year old boy opened my eyes. He states how “there is nothing civil or right about the “N” word.” Mc Coy believes that it should be taken away from all entertainment and if they still use it in their song they should not be awards from that particular song. He explains how an African American woman and her daughter went to a restaurant and the woman asked the man not to close the door on her daughter and the man called her the “N” word. Things in that matter should not happen because in the case of McCoy that word should be abolished.
The drive and the passion that Jonathan McCoy has for this topic, is how our speeches should attract our audience. The topic of abolishing the “N” word is powerful and something that I would never forget.
I was very impressed overall on the topic this eleven year chose and the passion he showed delivering his speech and in the interview. It’s both amazing and sad that a boy who is only eleven years has more common sense than most of older black men, rappers to be specific. I was blown away at the young man’s deliverance of his speech. It was a bold and serious delivery. The audience could feel his passion and drive to actually ban the “n” word from basically ever being spoken. He used intelligent words and he used his research for credentials. He seemed very educated on his topic. I believe if I would have walked up to him and asked him any question on the topic he would give me very detailed and persuasive answers. The boy even sings about his topic. This shows true dedication to his topic. He even made a petition of which people already started to sign. He wrote the speech all by himself and for his age, that’s absolutely impressive.
This little boy had incredible strength to get up and talk about a serious problem that many adults would be afraid to address. To me personally I don’t like the “n” word but coming to college I changed the perception of the word. I see it in face book all the time as people’s statuses, and I completely forgot the background of the word. How it was used to degrade black people in the past. Hearing this little boy speak up about the issue of people throwing around the “n” word like its candy really made me realize that it is an issue. And we should all think about the history of the negative words that we use. Jonathan McCoy was very inspirational and well spoken. He captured my heart with his brave confidence.
I must say that I was thoroughly surprised to hear such a young boy speak about an issue that I would consider him too young to completely understand, or, go into such depth about. It was the way he spoke that he had me captivated because it was easy to tell how deeply he cared about the use of the “N-word” with his vocabulary and his use of emphasis. He not only talked about how he felt, but he also brought in references to current events and about the entertainment industry where the word is used. If he hadn’t used any examples, I may have thought that this is just another person with an opinion, but because he had those examples, I could tell this was something that he thought about all the time, and something that he was really concerned about. I can honestly say that I was persuaded by this little boy and very much inspired.
This little boy is so unique and I hope his parents are very proud of him. I am very proud that he took the initiative as a child to point out things that adults normally do not say. I felt like he was very comfortable on stage and in front of his audience. I think he has a lot of confidence and wonderful eye contact. His point was very strong and he had a very educated selection of words for an 11 year old. Even during the interview he was very professional.
Jonathan Mccoy is very intelligent young boy. In his speech and interview you can see how confident he is about the topic. His concerned about people and rappers using the “N” word. His speech motivated many people to think about that situation and to reflect about if its right or wrong to use the this word. One thing that surprised me was when he began to sing. This shows me and his audience how passionate he is about this problem. It is very amazing to watch an 11 year old deliver such a great speech.
The video about the 11 year old boy who start the campaign against the “N” word is an astonishing story. The reason this story is so bazaar because he is an 11 year old with ability to project such a message that really puzzled people for years. Why use the “N” word in such a good way, when it goes against what we as black stand for, fought for, and died for. He delivers this message with valid information and reliable sources. He uses the examples from modern day hip hop, which is a good example because they through the “N” word around like it is a good thing but he broke the actual definition down that showed everyone what it really meant and this opened up people to show how ignorant they were to what was going on in society. He backed his point with key speech points such as, self usage, credibility, and he was very passionate about what he was talking about therefore people took him seriously and that’s why are responding to his request to sign his letter.
This young boy is very passionate about banning the “N word”. He shows his passion by the tone and pitch of his voice. He is also very articulate. This 11 year old can serve as a great example to show that it’s not always about how old you are or the title you hold. In order for you to get people to listen to you and see your point of view you have to be passionate and believe in what you are saying. He also uses the technique of singing a song about his topic to connect to the audience and bring his point across. He has very good credibility and he also motivates his audience to strive for change.
This speech given by eleven-year old Jonathan Mccoy was truly amazing and inspiring. Jonathon has become an activist on the fight against the use of the “N” word. Jonathan was able to have the ability to grasp my attention because you could just see the passion in the way he spoke. You could see how this topic truly did bother him and thus he wanted to put up a fight to stop the non-sense of abusing such a hurtful word. Throughout, Jonathan’s speech he used many traits and skills. He connected his topic with today’s music and life. Also, he had the ability, as stated before, to grasp the attention of his audience and had researched facts to back himself up. Nonetheless, his eye contact was great. The way that he had delivered his speech made it seem that he had been speaking for years, it was so natural to him. Jonathan was able to just get his point through and make the audience pause to take a second to think about this word. Words are powerful we truly need to think before we speak.
Only eleven years old and already able to persuade the minds of individuals just by demonstrating his passion for a single yet difficult topic to discuss, the “N” word. It is truly inspiring to watch the clips of this young boy demonstrate his persuasive speech skills that I, 7 years older, cannot demonstrate as well. He manages to be so persuasive by, I believe, his vocal skills and his ability to articulate, enunciate and speak at a steady pace. Even in his interview you can simply see him using the same skills as he would in his persuasive speech. It is truly staggering to see a boy of such a young age to demonstrate so much passion and concern about the “N” word.
Eleven year old, Jonathan McCoy delivered an amazing speech on a topic he was truly passionate about. Jonathan McCoy wants to make a change. He spoke about how he wanted to ban the “N” word in all aspects of society. It is unacceptable to use the “N” word in any situation. I was shocked on how bright and determined this young boy was on this issue. Most children his age only worry about toys or candy, but Jonathan is one-of-a-kind. He seemed very confident while speaking. He knew his material and how to approach the audience. Jonathan could really persuade an audience and I hope in my future speech I will be able to use some of the techniques he used. Jonathan knows how to persuade and motivate an entire audience with such emotion and passion. He really delivered a great persuasive speech.
I thought Jonathon McCoy did an excellent job in this video. Jonathon wants to ban the ‘N’ word in society; he feels it should not be used. He mentioned how he looked up the word first and that was what had started him on his journey to try to ban the word. He made sure he was confident in what he was saying and had information to support his thoughts. I thought it was good how he also used a song to try to get his point across; he was trying to tackle his point in more than one way. I think it’s amazing how someone who is only eleven years old can have such strong views. He was very strong in what he was saying which made the impact on the audience stronger.
When a person gets older it is very important that they are articulate, coherent with their ideas, and somewhat knowledgeable in the claims that they make; I would not have thought that being all these things as a child was very important, as well. After seeing Jonathan McCoy on the Don Lemon show I felt as if it was imperative that everyone, not just adults, be able to get their points across. Of course, not all children will be able to deliver their points in the capacity of McCoy but indeed should still deliver them. Look at the impact Jonathan McCoy is making at 11 years old in trying to demolish the “n” word? He is putting together speeches, songs, and petitions to raise awareness of and banish it. I was amazed with McCoy’s ability to articulate his words and with his strong conviction. Though, he did not have many sources to back up what he was saying, how he was saying it made it all that more believable. (I know I should keep a more objective eye out there but what other 11-year-old can sound the way he did?) Also, his ability to shake off his nervousness by imagining one or two people in front of him instead of a whole crowd is very impressive. There are people that until this day are incapable of speaking publicly because they have not mastered a skill at an older age that young McCoy mastered at the age of eleven; indeed that is incredible. Finally, McCoy also demonstrated his understanding of his topic by answering all of Don Lemon’s questions effectively and efficiently. Jonathan McCoy definitely puts a lot of pressure for the other children present in the world but is a live example and proves that anything is possible, no matter the concept, the problem, or apparently the age.
I think that Jonathan McCoy is petitioning about a topic that a lot of people believe in. I have heard before, of people trying to band the “N” word throughout their homes and communities. I have even seen buttons that have “stop the “N” word” as a message. However, younger kids tend to not care about these kinds of things. They may think that it’s just a word that no one really cares about. To see that an 11-year old boy is concerned about something like this is just amazing. It was even more amazing to see how well this young boy presented his campaign in front of others. He looked very comfortable on stage. His stance was straight and, in the brief clip that was shown, his eyes were connected to the audience. Plus, he gave examples of how the “n” word was used in everyday conversation so that the audience was able visualize his meanings. I think Jonathan is a very smart and brave boy. His leadership role is already showing. Since he is at a young age and speaks so expertly on his topic are the reasons why he has gained so much recognition and so many followers.
Not only is this young boy talking about a truly influential matter, but he is talking with just poise and knowledge that for a boy his age in unbelievable. I feel as if I am watching a grown politician or debater give a speech rather than an 11 year old boy when I watch this video. He is using all the elements in a persuasive speech that we talked about today in class. It is amazing this boy can get up in front of a crowd at such a young age and deliver a speech that is informative, well thought out and truly moving to the viewer.
After viewing Jonathan McCoy speaking about how he feels about the ‘N’ word I was stuck in amazement in how an eleven year old boy can feel such a way. During the interview he spoke with some much poise and intelligence, he looks like a child but he surely has the mind of a grown man. It amazed me on how much research he did, by knowing the topic perfectly he was able to persuade with his innocence but strongly with his knowledge. The thing that proved his points were his examples such as the woman in Georgia and how he had assembled a petition to abolish the word, it showed his passion for the topic. It was great on how he channeled his nervousness because he spoke in such a conversational style that he was comfortable and it made his words or the more powerful. What drew in me in was that he was so calm and cool about it, and what was astonishing is that he was showering and thought of something and researched it. I feel that the shower is the best place to think because you are in solitude and in privacy and all your thoughts can be processed. Jonathan had persuaded me to stop using the word, although it will take time I will do my best.
It is surprising to see a young boy of eleven be so passionate about somthing. At that age the biggest consider for a kid is looking and acting cool. In our genenation it has become a habit to use the "n" word. Jonathan McCoy is one of the few young people who want to make a difference with what they say because he finds it rude to refer someone or something as a nigger. The word isn't nice and it doesn't bring the world together. Jonathan sounds like an adult rather than a child. We can feel his passion on trying to change the way we speak. He had good reasons as to why he feels the word should be banned. Jonathan showed confindence and determination and that is something I can admire. For my speech, I'll make sure to use all the elements Jonathan used to deliever his speech. Jonathan McCoy is truly an insipration and he makes me want to be extrememly passionate abo a particular issue.
Jonathan is an amazing young man! It’s amazing that at the age of 11 he has such an incredible mind. He sees the injustices of the world and recognizes the ignorance of people. What amazed me the most is how he’s so passionate about this topic and wants to take the “n” word out of the vocabulary of people in this world. I think that once people start seeing that such a young boy speaks on behalf of others and on behalf of the world people will start elimanting this word from their vocabulary. I admire this young man because he knows what he’s saying and can back up his reasoning. I can’t wait to see him achieve his goal.
