I did my interview on Thursday November 20. I was applying for a position as a Technical Support Agent with the Office of Information and Technology at Rider University. At first the interview opened with questions about my past experience and what I had done in relation to the position. I felt that my answers were clear and had a lot of correlation, making me seem more qualified. My posture and appearance was appropriate for the interview which to a real employer would gain me more credibility when searching for a job. The overall interview went well with the exceptions that some of my answers tended to run on a bit more than necessary. Not only that but also at the end of the interview I asked certain questions that typically would not be asked because they do not require an answer that is truly shows my enthusiasm or desire to work for the department and made them tedious. I also forgot to ask when I would hear back regarding the position. The majority of my answers were strong however with a good point. I learned that I have to maintain more eye contact and be conscious of my body language at all times because it can easily send the wrong impression the employer which could be detrimental to my chances of being hired. I have to limit my answers more and reach my point as well as maintain more eye contact when I do answer. This advice can be very helpful to my in the future and improve my chances greatly at being hired.
I performed my interview on Tuesday, November 17. I was applying for the job in the catering department at Rider University. I believe that I did a very good job during my time in front of the classroom interviewing. I have many years of experience in the food industry, therefore I was able to bring forth my skills and experiences in which I have learned over the past four years. I believe I hid my nervousness well and showed the confidence in which every employer wants to see. My answers made sense and answered the exact question in which I was being asked. I should have had a few more questions ready to ask at the end of the interview to show my interest in the job. I was sure to keep eye contact with Professor McManimon throughout the entire interview, began and ended with a smile, and told her examples of how I could benefit the company for the better.
I got interviewed on Thursday November 20, 2009. I was being interviewed by Mrs. Mc Manimon for a Associates Technology Engineer position at Mc Kesson Medical Corporation. My interview opened up with background questions such as what experience I had in the past. I responded to those questions very strongly, I felt very confident in my material that I was explaining and how it tied into the job position I was pursuing. Then she asked skill questions such as do I have leadership skills. I responded to that question strongly by bringing up my past high school experiences on my sports teams and I went in depth by giving examples of my leadership skills. Next she asked me when I would be available for the job in the summer. I did not know the question off the top of my head so I kind of froze up, but for the most part I think I did well with the verbal. The non verbal I did well also I had good posture, good eye contact, and I came dressed appropriately for the interview. Overall I think I had a good interview could have been better but the mistakes in this interview will help me for the real interviews in the future because I will know what not to do.
I did my interview on the first day. Although I was nervous, I managed to control and hide my nervousness. The company that I had my interview was Christ Hospital. I chose this company because it is in a convenient location and the company is closely related to my major, biology. It is very hard to find a job or internship in the medical field. In order to work in a hospital you need to have experience. The job I choose in that hospital was in the dietary department, serving food for the patients. Although I will not have hands on experience treating the patients, I will be able to gain experience and network with professional doctors for future references. At the beginning of my speech I was confident, and my body language was good, but I shouldn’t have crossed my legs. I had good eye contact and my non verbal communication was good. The first question that I was asked, I did not give a good and precise answer, but after that the other questions were answered in a clear and reasonable way. I used some information that I had in my resume, which helped me answer some of the questions. I ended my interview by asking two questions, which showed that I had interest in that position. At the end I thank the interviewer for her time and I asked when will I be hearing from them again.
I gave my speech on the first day, and I was the very first one to go. My interview was for a mock internship at the Brighter Day Mental Health Center. This was one of my favorite activities because it was a pretty accurate simulation of what it would be like to go on an actual interview. I reflected a fair amount of time to prepare for the sample questions that you distributed to us. I thought I knew what I was in for, but I was still a little nervous because I had no idea which questions you were going to ask me. Although I effectively answered the questions that were asked of me, thinking at such a fast pace caused me to use derivatives of the same original idea I proposed at the beginning of the interview to answer almost all the questions. That idea was that I was ambitious, determined, and goal oriented. I tried to elaborate on each of them, but I think I got caught up in the stress of answering the questions to their maximum potential.
The first thing that I did wrong was not properly sell myself. Although I told you my skills, I did not elaborate on how those skills could benefit the company. I should have given examples of how I have and still use those skills to accomplish my responsibilities and tasks. Another thing that I did wrong was not even mention the fact that I have already participated in an internship in a clinical setting. In my nervous state, I forgot that most my prepared answers were based on experiences I had while interning at the Willingboro Veterinary Clinic. I forgot this so severely that I did not even think I forgot to say something until several minutes after the interview.
Even though you were a little critical of how I explained some of my transferable qualities, I felt as though I did back up some of them with pretty effective details. You were especially critical of how I explained my ability to work on a team. I explained how I supervised team building exercises and boosted team spirit; I thought that could not have gotten more specific. I came dressed for success, maintained great eye contact, and kept my body language positive and enthusiastic. I pride myself on my ability to look into a person’s eyes when I speak to them; I feel as though you can tell so much about a person’s emotions and feelings by staring directly into their eyes. Overall, I think I performed pretty well, but there is a lot of room for improvement. One thing I cannot forget is to always remain personable.
I really enjoyed the job interview assignment that we had to do in class. That was the first type of job interview I have ever had and now I feel a lot more prepared for what is to come, eventually. I was interviewed for a position as a manager at a Verizon store. The first couple of questions started off asking about my past experiences. For this part I think that I should have illustrated past experiences better. I also should have illustrated more how those experiences show transferable skills. Then I was asked what makes me qualified for the job. In this part, I think that I should have focused more on my strengths and what I can bring to the company to make it better. I should have talked more about what I do well and how I can contribute. Besides my responses, I should have also should have shown more confidence during the interview. Some things that I did well was that I talked about respect. I think respect is a very important quality to have when managing people. The only way that one can be respected is if they respect others. This is a skill that I have and that I definitely sold in my interview. I was also proud that I mentioned that I am fluent in Spanish. This is also a very good quality to have in a country where the biggest minority groups are Hispanics. Overall, I think I did well in my interview and I think the grade that I got was completely fair.
During the last week, I had an interview presentation. I was the first one to go on the second day. My interview was for a mock internship in the Maskque Center as a sex educator. I chose this internship because at a future point I want to be involved with marriage counseling. Before I went up I was extremely nervous because I have not have many interviews in the past. I had three jobs my entire life and many didn’t require interviews. I was prepared in every way. My appearance consisted on dressy pants, a nice shirt, and decent shoes. I did not have overdone makeup and I was prepared physically. Before the interview I did research on the company and the owner. I learned that the person in charge was Stephanie and she attended the University of Los Angeles. Later I practice answering some of the sample questions that were posted for us. Although I felt like I did a good job in my interview, I got carried away. When it came time for my interview, I was extremely nervous and forgot everything I had practice. I felt intimidated by the questions Professor McManimon was asking me. I was friendly and I tried to not show my nerves but it was obvious. I did not elaborate to my benefit. I did not deliver the good interview I had practiced. I did not sell myself enough to make a memorable interview. I did not answer the questions clearly and I just made my way around them. I definitely need to learn how to stop and think before I answer a question. I learned that before anyone speaks, its okay to take a couple of seconds to think and show the person interviewing you that you are actually thinking about it. Next time, I will practice and deliver an interview where I feel comfortable and have a better connection. I feel like I will do a better next time around. I have confidence in my self.
My interview was on November 19th, the second day of the interview presentations. My interview was for a position as a receptionist at RWJ Hamilton Wellness and Fitness Center. First and foremost, I believe I did a fantastic job holding my composure, fully answering all the questions, and keeping good eye contact with my interviewer, Professor McManimon. Plus, I kept the interview very personable though I was having a hard time staying on my feet with some of the questions that were asked of me. I must admit, it was fun having to think on my feet, though, because the interview was a perfect simulation of what it is like to go onto an interview in the real world; everything that occurred during the mock interview was very similar to what occurred during my interview at my last place of work, The Doctor Is In, a popular health clinic in Hudson County. Finally, I went into the mock interview with the mind set of getting the job, and at the end that was exactly what occurred; I was very proud of that.
Unfortunately, with every success comes room for improvement. One of the problems I believe I suffered from was that I failed to fully illustrate my transferable skills to the interviewer. For example, when answering the questions at hand, I could have incorporated one or two more transferable skills, such as my ability to follow directions, within my answers. Also, though I did not seem nervous, I feel that I should focus on ways to reduce my level of nervousness during significant events because it affects my ability to properly perform the tasks presented before me. Then again, it is my nervousness that allows me to perform better because I am determined to overcome that emotion and then succeed at whatever it is that I am doing; I definitely need to find a middle. Finally, I could have done more research on RWJ Hamilton Wellness and Fitness Center to illustrate a deeper knowledge of the workplace. But I am not at all worried because there is always room to improve.
As a note, I enjoyed every minute of the mock interview and wanted to extend my congratulations to everyone in the class for doing a good job. Great work everybody, including Professor McManimon!
My mock interview was for an internship with American Red Cross: Community training in North Jersey. This internship consisted of me traveling to Fairfeild, NJ for a winter internship helping setup with American Red Cross and their programs developed for the community. I chose this since in my future career I would like to be a Nurse Practioner and I figured this would be of relevance to my future career and also an asset on my resume. From the beginning I believed my dress attire was very appropriate and my posture was great (I was told). I had a nice conversational voice and I kept good eye contact showing my interest in the internship. The aspect of the mock interview that I could have improved on was the first question about, who I am and what I do. I expressed I was a freshmen at Rider University and some clubs I was into, but not really pinpointing the responses towards the interview and my reasons for the internship. I also repeated a lot of words and used “umm” way to many times. I was informed that no employer wants to hire a person that uses “umm” overall viewing that person to lack in communication skills. I should lack in any communication skills since I am in a Speech Communications class. A question that I feel I responded to greatly was about my skills that I could bring to the internship. I answered with skills that I acquired from my current job at Wal*Mart, with me training people, showing them how the job is done, then allowing them to perform the skills that I had showed them. Another skill is me being patient and I care about people because I volunteer back at home, at Masonic Homes a nursing home. All these skills were required on the application, so I wanted to incorporate those skills in my responses. I feel this was the highlight of my mock interview, however I did mess up and times, and that just means there is always room for improvement. But I appreciate doing this lesson because it was a taste of the “real world” and how we need to be prepared for interviews on prospective jobs/internships etc.
Last week I was able to be the second person in my class to participate in the interview process. I was interviewing for an exclusive and arduous internship position that dealt with the shadowing of several criminologist and FBI detectives. In the beginning of the interview, I felt a little nervous but after a while I felt comfortable and willing to answer each question with the proper grade. I answered each question with clarification and I tried to support each of my answer with detailed examples. Unfortunately, during my interview I was disturbed by the noise of music going off but I still continued with focus. My hand shake was firm and strong allowing me to perpetuate my interest for the internship position. I was really relaxed during the interview and it was noticeable through my posture and appearance. I must admit that some of the questions in which I answered were not as clear and I did not do as well but overall I think I did good but not great. I learned that I must verbally attack each question and go straight into the point. This assessment was great because it granted me with the capability to improve my interview skills and how to overcome a little of my nervousness.
On Thursday November 19, I had conducted my mock interview with Professor McManimon. My interview consisted of a job opportunity at a Bally’s Gym where the position of a filing clerk was available. At first, I will be honest I was a little nervous because I did not know what to expect from the questions that were going to be asked of me. I shared my past work experiences and my roles during high school to illustrate my experience level with working and associating with others. I also shared my academic stance from when I had graduated high school and some of the honors I had received. During the interview I felt that my posture was adequate and that my eye contact was pretty good. In fact, Professor McManimon stated that I had clearly shown some interest because of both my posture and eye contact. When it came down to the questions I felt that I had answered them pretty well however it was stated that I should have gone a little further. Also, I should have been more relaxed, less on the stiff side, and I should have asked more questions regarding both the company and job position. All in all, I felt my interview was pretty descent minus a few minor quirks that need to be fixed.
I did my interview the last day, November 20. I feel I did an okay job when it came to my interview. The job I was applying to was kiddie academy. I applied here because it was in a convenient location, it’s right near my house, and it will help me for what I plan to become. I’m majoring in education so working at a children’s center can only help to broaden my experience with children. I didn’t start off to well because my handshake was weak. But the way I answered the questions was good. After the question was asked, I responded in a good amount of time, I didn’t take too long to think about my answers but I didn’t just start blurting out nonsense either. Even though my answers were okay I should have backed them up a lot better. I was kind of vague when it came to my answers, not fully showing how my background can help me when it comes to this job experience. Also, at the end I should have had more questions to show I was interested in the job. I feel as though this presentation was something that can help me in the future when I have job interviews, because I will know the proper ways to answer.
During my Interview, I felt, that I had good answers to the questions I was asked. I also waited to be asked to be seated. However, I was very nervous and it negatively affected my body language and my facial expressions. I didn’t smile until the end of the interview. The biggest problem had was keeping eye contact. This is not just because it was an interview; loosing people eye contact when I speak is a problem that I suffer with. I never make eye contact when I’m talking to people. This is something I know I need to work on I have been struggling with it for a long time. Also, throughout the interview I was way too serious and didn’t really smile. But, I had a nice handshake and smile at the end. I think this exercise will really help me with future interviews because now I know what to expect.
I had my interview on the first day which was Tuesday, November 17th. My interview was based on an internship in the Columbia/Tristar Pictures Publicity and Promotions department with the Sony Pictures Entertainment Company. From the beginning I believe I made a good impression because I was dressed appropriately and gave off a strong sense of enthusiasm. This was emphasized with my firm handshake and good posture once I was offered a seat. Though I was a bit nervous because it was the first day, and I was one of the first interviewee’s I did not let that show through in my body language. The process began with basic questions about me and why I was interested in the position. My responses to these questions were backed with examples of prior experience and confidence. Throughout the interview I made it a responsibility to pay close attention to the questions being asked and to give myself a good amount of time to respond so it did not seem like I was rambling or unsure of myself.
The fact that I exercised good listening skills gave me very positive results because I felt as though I was really making a connection with my interviewer as opposed to just being bombarded with questions. At one point in the interview I was asked “What it was about me that separated me from the other potential interns.” That is when I proceeded to present my digital portfolio of previous work that I’ve done in my video classes. The disc that I brought with me contained my best videos, montages, and promotions that I had created in previous years. This showed that my experience with production and promotion was multi-dimensional as well as the fact that I was willing to go the extra mile. I also did a good job of emphasizing my transferable skills with my verbal responses. Overall I think my interview went pretty well and that I accomplished what I set out to do. At the end of the interview I could have tied in the fact that I obtained leadership skills with my coaching job a little bit better, but for the most part I would say my interview was a success.
Tiffany Ervin (2:20 class)
My interview was for a posistion at the Rider University Pub and I was addressing it to Ben, which was the manager of the Pub. I feel like my interview went well except when it came to answering the questions. Even though I prepared some interview questions the night before and When it came down to the actual interview I ended up freezing up because I envsioned the actual manager interviewing me. At the end of the interview Professor McManimon gave me very helpful advice as to back up all my answer with facts of experience. And I agreed completely because I was just trying my best to answer the questions rather than really backing up my answers with evidence. To sum up my interview I think I had good posture, I felt like I was dressed properly, and I gave good body language. The things I can improve on are answering my questions fully, and thinking before responding, so that I'm not stumbling over my words.
The day of my of interview I felt extremely ready but my performance did not show that. I read about the position I was interviewing for but, my preparation was in the wrong area. I was not ready to answer questions and due to that I did not have any ice contact, and I had a minor slouch. Although, I studied the corporation and position days prior to my interview, once I sat in the chair I got nervous and blanked out. My responses were very weak and board because I was nervous so I felt if I answered the questions short and quick I can get the interview done with. I did feel towards the end I answered one question thoroughly about my work ethic but by then it was too late to salvage in the interviewing process. During the end at the final question I copped out by not answering I remember I stated that my resume was strong enough. If I were an interviewer I would not hire myself, because I was ill prepared and extremely nervous. I usually do not get nervous like that I simply felt awkward with the whole class staring at me and knowing I am getting graded.
I had my interview on Tuesday. I was interviewing for the FBI internship in summer 2011. My attire was good. I also had good posture, smiled a lot, and nodded to show that I was paying attention. I also had a firm handshake and spoke well. I showed a lot of interest in the internship and I showed that I was knowledgeable about the internship and what it had to offer. However, when asked to sell myself I worked around the question and asked a question instead. Overall, I believe that I did a good job on the interview. I was confident and aware of my surroundings. I do however have to work on giving more direct answers and selling myself better.
When I did my interview, I was applying for an internship working in a day camp for children. I think I sold myself well by using examples of my past experiences working with children and other chaotic experiences. I did hesitate at one point but I think I handled the situation well overall. I believe I did well on my interview, especially considering I got hired two days before for another job by using techniques I have learned in class.
When I did my interview, I was applying for a job as a elementary school teacher’s assistant at my former middle school. I felt very nervous doing my interview. I went in with a smile hoping to not get distracted and act as though I was very comfortable. I folded my hands on my lap so I wouldn’t play with my hands. I was able to look at Prof. McManimon right in the eyes as we did the interview process. I kept my answers sweet and short but they got right to the point.I was happy when the interview ended because I got positive feedback. Some of the feed back was that I started with a smile and ended with one. Great eye contact. Good answers and good way to reference back to what I did in the past.
