The speaker I critiqued was Luis Del Rosario; he did his speech on the women in his life that were the most strict and punishing. Luis had a very good introduction by interacting with the audience and getting them involved by asking a question. In addition he also incorporated the techniques of humor. Luis used his self by discussing some of the things he did which resulted in a few of his many beatings. He also used other sources by speaking from his cousin point of view that also had to deal with the punishment from these ladies. His presentation even built bridges in a sense because it all seemed to b in chronological order, from start to finish. Lastly Luis used the element of surprise to make his speech better. Luis used a picture from his PowerPoint which was a pro wrestler (The Rock) to imitate his grandma performing the “People’s Elbow” on his cousin for running away from her. Nobody in the audience expected Luis to come out and say that about his grandma and that what made it such a surprise.
In conclusion, overall Luis did a good job on his entertainment speech. There was a little room for improvement, like using the last humor technique which was pulling the leg/pulling switch. He also could have not made such nervous hand gestures, and not just only focused on one area of the room. Besides that he did an exceptional job on his presentation.
The speaker i critiqued was Vanessa Maldonado and she did her speech on how her mom and family embarass her. Vanessa used all the techniques in her speech. She included herself and others and also used other sources, such as the powerpoint and haircute and dress pictures. When describing her family vacation she used National Lampoons Vacation she was pulling the switch and changing the peg. She built bridges through her whole speech. She also used the element of surprise when talking about her mom in the beginning when her mom makes up peoples names for example she thought the guys name was charles and it was actually jimmy.
She spoke clearly and kept good eye contact. Vanessa had good stance and didn't fidget while she was presenting. She has become a really good speaker and i hope she continues to keep it up.
I critiqued Defron Dominick's speech. From beginning to end Defron keep the attention of his audience with his wit but also by maintaining great eye contact. Defron used all five techniques exactly the way they should be used and as a result his speech was great. his content was just as great as his delivery. He seemed comfortable and relaxed up there in front of the class because of his confident posture, direct eye-contact, and the rate and pace of his voice.
Defron used himself throughout his speech by giving examples from his own life and making fun of his experiences. He also used other people when he talked about the awkward talks with his uncle. Defron used other sources with his powerpoint presentation and he also cited when he used references and photos when he discussed the angel story. Defron built bridges beautifully and it enhanced his speech tremendously because his speech flowed from story to story. Defron used the element of surprise in each one of his stories.
Although Defron's content was great he could have had a better, stronger introduction. He lacked a legitimate attention getter.
The person I critiqued was Quanda Brinson. Her entertainment speech was about her life. Quanda was able to attract the audience’s attention and maintain it. There were parts in her speech where she had the potential to sneak in a joke, but she never did. She not only used herself, but she included others like her grandmother, friends and EOP family. She used all the techniques, but I enjoyed it when she switched it up with the comment of me not liking her hair cut. She presented herself very well and I feel that she could have done better just by adding more funny details in her speech or even just switching it up a bit more. I really enjoyed her conclusion, I feel that she left a memorable statement.
The speaker I critiqued was Voncia Payton. She did her speech on her colleagues. She had a good introduction and a good attention getter. She 4 of the 5 techniques of humor. She didn't use herself in the speech. But she did use others very well. She used people like Jarea, Cynthia, Anjel, Anajessica and more. She used other sources like using the powerpoint. When she would show the pictures of Anjel and the monkey and pictures of others she was using the element of surprise. She would build bridges by introducing her friends before she talked about them. She changed the peg and pulled the switch when she would compare her friends to various things. She had a good conclusion she wrapped everything up well. She was also very enthusiastic throughout the speech. She did a very good job in keeping the audience entertained and laughing!
The speaker that I critiqued was Danielle Brown. Her presentation demonstrated the 10 questions she is constantly asked as a twin. At first I did not think that her topic would be very funny but I was proven wrong as soon as she started. The questions she showed like "Which one of you is the evil twin?" and "Wow you guys look alike, are you twins?" were hilarious and had everyone laughing in their seats. She spoke with a very loud and clear voice that helped her message really come through and amplified its entertainment value. She kept direct eye contact with different people in the crowd and kept a good and strong posture as she was presenting. She appeared to be very relaxed as she was presenting because her hands were not moving all over the place and she was not moving back and forth.
She showed every technique as she used herself and others including her sister throughout the presentation. She built bridges with the title as we anxiously awaited the next slide. She has elements of surprise as she showed her response's to certain questions and used other sources, like the power point, to give examples. Overall her speech was excellent, my only suggestion would be not to suck your teeth so much when you speak and slow down a little bit.
The speaker I critiqued was Jarea Bivens who did his entertainment speech on the trials and tribulations of his life. Jarea had a great attention getter, his story about how he was a little overweight captivated the audience and made them laugh by using himself in reference to his speech. He also built bridges on the events in his life by chronologically listing all of the funny events that happened in his life before he got into college. The most attention grabbing was trhe story of h ow he was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight. He reacted in a way that no one would have expected him to and the bridge he had built got him good feedback from the audience.
He also used other people to get good feedback by talking to the people he met when he got to college. He also used other sources by using the powerpoint and pictures depicting an image of his stories to the audience.
Jarea used all of the techniques of an entertainment speech to get his points across and entertain the audience but he lacked proper grammar in some sentences.
I will start by saying that Anjel’s speech was great. It was very entertaining as it should have been. Good job Anjel. Your introduction was good. You clearly stated what your speech was going to be about, which you can say was your “thesis”. I really can’t say if you had an attention getter, but your smile, laugh, title of your presentation, and personality grabbed my attention personally. You used all of the techniques that we were supposed to use. For example, when you talked about your uncle cracker-jack, you had the picture of that guy, which was very surprising. All through-out your speech you used yourself as humor and other people, which was making use of other sources. You also built bridges; like when you first talked about the cereal and then you went on to other house products like the batteries. All through your speech you had great eye contact with audience, which kept them attentive. You spoke clearly and your pace was good. The only thing that wasn’t evident was your conclusion. You should have made that a little stronger and then your speech would have been perfect. Your speech was hilarious.
The speaker I critiqued was Amanda Aviles. She was also the first person to give her entertainment speech for the class. I felt that she used the 5 techniques of humor very effectively. She used herself in the speech and she used others when reliving the most memorable moments of her highschool years. She also use the element of surprise when she told stories about her teachers and what they did durnig class. She also built briges from one story to the next and overall she gave a very entertainment speech.
I had to critique Ashely Pichardo on her entertainment speech. It was about her "ashley moments". It was funny but she often used inappropriate language. We laughed but it wasnt appropriate for the classroom setting. She did build bridges between stories about how she sometimes doesn't listen, which means she also used the technique of using herself. When she used her family, the technique of using others was utilized. She was able to take things that may not be funny in reality and change it to be humourous.
Ashley kept eye contact the whole time even though she did speak with her hands alot. Everyone was attentive throughout the speech and she spoke at a speed that was easy to listen to. The speech reached the goal of being funny.
The speaker that i critiqued was Amanda Aviles. Amanda's topic was her high school memories. She used the 5 techniques of humor which are, using herself, using others, building bridges, pulling the switch, and the Element of surprise.
Amanda was the first person to give her entertainment speech. it was very humorous. she had the element of surprise when she told us the story of how her teacher threw a stapler at a student. she also built bridges constantly. Moreover, she used herself and others by telling stories about her high school memories. I thoroughly enjoyed her trip on to memory lane with her entertainment speech.
