What are you listening to?

We discussed in class the importance of understanding the listening process in our daily communication situations. Understanding that we each come into our communication experiences with our own frame of reference is an important idea. Gaining a new perspective requires that you move past your own personal barriers to accurately decode the message. Try to remove your own personal barriers in this assignment. Regardless of your present thoughts of either candidate, attempt to listen to this speech in a nonpartisan way. How would you evaluate Sarah Palin's speech at the recent Republician National Convention. What are you listening to in her performance? Style and delivery? Content? Are you evaluating the message on her nonverbal behavior? Does her body language communicate her message? How does she express herself? Humor? Emotion? What ways has she adapted her message to her audience? What kinds of language is being used? What kinds of supporting details? Use the guide sheet for evaluating speeches at the end of Chapter four in our text when posting. I expect that you illustrate your comments with details and specific examples from the speech. Review your post before you submit it. Is it more negative or positive? So what are you listening to? (You should go to the EOP link titled "delicious" to find two links for this speech. The speech is in two parts. You will find a link for each part of the speech in my delicious account.)

Throughout the most of the speech, Sarah Palin was unenthusiastic and had no body language, just pointing her index finger. She didn’t have much emotion, or light behind her eyes, and this disappointed me. She is a beautiful and very attractive woman so it makes it easier to look at her and listen to her. She took to many long pauses while the audience was clapping, but as I read Chapter four I learned that it’s a form of feedback, but she can make the pauses shorter and just keep on going with her point.

The languages, meaning the words that she used were very simple. That can either be taken as negative or positive feedback. People have to understand that millions are watching this, and that simple words must be used in order for the message to be understood, and so I thank her for that. Her speech was very organized; to me it was divided into three parts. Introducing herself and her family; explain McCain’s ideas and supporting them, and striking Obama, which I thought she did in a very humane way. Personally, I think she introduced her family well but she spoke too much about her husband, no one needs to know all that information about his fishing trips and awards.

She could relate to some of the things she was talking about which helped her connect with the audience and moreover the Republican Party. The fact that she was so enthusiastic about the troops in Iraq, and saying that victory is coming soon helped get the audience pumped. She has a son and nephew heading over to Iraq as we speak so that helped her relate to the millions of families in the same situation. I even felt connected because I have family in Iraq and I have a cousin who was hurt and now has special needs, which she also talked about. Things like that are what helped me keep captivated watching the video.

The most evident thing that Sarah Palin said throughout the entire speech that will stick out in my mind for a very long time is this, “McCain knows when it is time for politics and when it is time for leadership. He knows when it is time to campaign, and when it is time to put our country first.”

The first thing I noticed that made it very uncomfortable to watch was the way she would pause for a little while longer than was actually necessary. I observed that when the audience would applaud she would use these opportunities to mouth her next thought. This made me focus on the fact that she didn’t look very confident.

When she is speaking I don’t really want to listen because to me she is very dull, and bland. Also another thing that I realized is that, being with the kind of class that we have been in I never really took into consideration that some people don’t have the integrity part down. Palin is one of those people that I’m not sure what it may be but I don’t believe what she says. For instance, when she refers her self as a “gal who knows all the slopes” I thought she felt and sounded uncomfortable and it made her seem phony. Like these aren’t her words.

She chooses use sarcasm to ridicule Obama. She also uses repletion as an emphasis to ridicule him as well.

The one thing that I must acknowledge is that she has a very strong conversational style. Which could either come back to harm or help her. As I see it people have the liberty to think either she is too much like them and therefore unprepared for a position of this stature, or people will like that she is “like them.”

I found my self very distracted by the way she would sway her balance from one leg to the other. This was a distraction that took away from her confidence as well as the focus to her message.

Throughout her speech she was able to catch and maintain the audience’s attention. She maintained eye contact with the actual audience and the TV audience. When she talked she emphasized words that needed to be emphasized. She also gave an attitude while she talked. While she was speaking she would praise McCain’s accomplishments. She stated that McCain had been a soldier for 22 years and will be for the rest of his life. When she paused she would wait for the audience’s reaction, the feedback was praises from the audience. She made her whole speech personal, bringing in the lives of her family members. She stated that her son and nephew were going to serve in the war in Iraq and how proud she was of them and the other soldiers serving in the war. She represented herself and her family as an average family. When she stated that she came from a small town and was a mayor for a small town, the audience perceived her as someone who is interested in helping the common people. She also brought humor into her speech as a way to maintain the audience’s attention. She told a joke about her as a hockey mom. She brought creditability to herself by telling about her job as a mayor. She also stated a comment about Obama’s former job as a community organizer, which made him look unfit for presidency. She said that being a mayor of a small town and he like being a community organizer except that we have responsibilities. The vocabulary in her speech was not difficult, her vocabulary was conversational. Overall her speech was excellent she represented McCain and herself excellently.

I felt Sarah Palin was a fair speaker, even though she had an acceptable voice I felt sometimes her accent would slip out on certain words. She had a strong conversational voice, She also took long pauses then needed in the beginning of the speech. Sarah Palin used many hand gestures while she was speaking to emphasize her message; I felt she did it too much though to the point it distracted me.

Sarah Palin kept relating to the audience whether it was through her family members becoming member of our troops or owning a farm. By relating to her audience she captured her audience, but I felt sometimes she kept going to much into details and at point it seemed she talked a lot about herself even though it was related to the topic it felt it was more about what she did then how her experience would be beneficial.

Also I felt the speech dragged on, it had numerous powerful points but for some reason she would capture me when she spoke about the real issues, such as the tax and what Obama was going to do, or the oil and how they would solve the problem through drilling. But it seemed she did not speak enough about those details and that her introduction to the main points where longer then the actual important topic.

Sarah was confident throught out her speech but for some reason it did not captivate me.

As soon as I listened and watched her speech I noticed that Sarah had great eye contact. She worked her corners well. She used her hands a lot to help emphasize her main points. Sarah had lots of enthusiasm she seemed very passionate about what she was saying. Her message was easy to capture. She didn't use any confusing or unnecessary words. Her language was very clear and understandable. She reinforced her main ideas, which helped to maintain the attention of her audience. She used concrete words instead of abstract words, which grabbed the attention of her listeners. But her message was still clear, which is very important because thousands upon thousand of people were watching and listening to her speech. She repeated “John McCain” over and over for great prominence.

Sarah also smiled a lot and her smile seemed genuine. I think she connected with both the male and female sides of the audience when she mentioned Hilary Clinton (how she had made 18 million cracks in the “glass ceiling”)
and other former women in politics.

I like when Sarah said, “McCain won’t only serve his party, but he will serve his country.”

I felt that Sarah Palin’s speech was excellent, the voice and tone she used to present herself resulted in great feedback from the audience. Her voice quality was good; she has an excellent speaking voice. However, I feel her speech could have been organized better. In the beginning I felt that she spoke too much about McCain rather than herself. She used her hand gestures too much as she spoke. As if she was visually trying to demonstrate her speech. Her use of humor was good; she responded to the audience’s posters and gave her feedback. I felt it was a great idea to show her family, tell how she has been in the PTA, and how she is a hockey mom. This tells the audience how she is a determined and committed individual. She also looked around as she spoke which shows how her eye contact was good. However, after viewing all 5 parts of her speech on YouTube I feel that her speech dragged on.

Overall, in my opinion Sarah Palin was very confident in her speech, although I do feel that she could have organized the speech better because of her concentration on McClain in the beginning. However, throughout her speech Sarah has proven to the audience how she is a committed individual, and is ready to take the job for Vice president.

When I began watching this speech, I will admit that I was a bit biased because I affiliate myself with the Democratic Party. However as the speech began I found many interesting things to consider and relate to. Firstly, I noticed that Sarah Palin had really great eye contact, considering the immense size of her audience. She was able to evenly distribute her contact without seeming jumpy. She was also very confident and spoke clearly and accurately. Palin’s body language primarily gave an air of confidence and professionalism, however I felt that she used her hands a bit too much in a repetitive fashion. Her message to the audience was clear, interesting, and assertive, however it pertained solely to those who support John McCain. Had someone supporting Obama heard the speech, they’d have been disinterested. The speech was however very informative and to someone unfamiliar with either presidential candidate, their opinion could easily be swayed by this speech.

6. Was the speech effectively organized? Yes, she referred to specific topics in an almost chronological order

8. Was the quality of the speaker’s voice acceptable? Yes, her volume and pitch were loud and her message was heard by all

9. Did the speaker’s body language create meaning? At times she would slouch when she was in the middle of saying something and was interrupted but other than that her posture was relatively firm

10. Did the speaker look for and respond to feedback? I don't think she had to look for feedback, she was praised from beginning to end

When I first began to listen to her speech I was more interested in content than anything but as the speech progressed I began to notice her own little style which added to the message. The way she related her own personal background only made the speech more enjoyable and did not take away from her overall topics. Its nice to see someone who does not completely forget about their family just because they're running for a position of high importance. When she wasn't talking she was usually smiling and making connections with the crowd. She added a lot of humor to her speech which made it more enjoyable for me. She did not discredit her opponents policies in a mean way, she merely brought to light some of his mistakes and short comings. The fact that she succeeded in doing this in a comical manner is plausible. She related the topic to her audience because they were the ones directly being affected by her policies. The United States of America as a whole is her audience and I believe that she did a good job in reassuring them that our country is going to be left in good hands if they vote for John McCain.

The speaker was very effective getting her message across and the audience showed enthusiasm throughout her speech and giving her lots of feedback. Palin started off by introducing her family to her audience giving them credibility. At first, it lost my concentration, however I was able to see the connection the speaker was trying to make with her audience. She was relating to all the mothers in the audience especially the “hockey moms” about her simple lifestyle.

Her general purpose was very clear and she used detailed examples to draw her support. She related her experience as a senator to back up her statements. Palin attacked Obama during her speech, by quoting him. She often referred to Senator John McClain’s service during the Vietnam War, giving him credibility. As a liberal, I thought her delivery was very persuasive.

Her use of language was good. Her voice was not forceful as one usually expects from politicians yet it drew my attention. Palin’s tone was very calm; however her rate would drop during her speech. This made it hard for not to loose focus. The speaker used conversational style to connect with the audience. Her posture was good nonetheless, she seemed a little bit uncomfortable. I could tell she was a bit nervous.

Palin used a good deal of humor keeping her audience entertained. I noticed that every time she made a joke, she would pause to see her audience reaction. On the hand, she often paused too long making it a little bit awkward

In general her speech was fairly good just too long because of the long pauses she kept on making.

In Palin's speech, I am listening to her style and delivery. She seemed very passionate about serving her country and of senator McCain through her tone of voice and facial expressions. There was little body language, but the audience received her message well. Her eyes were fixed on the audience as if she was in a conversation with everyone.

She received a lot of feedback from the audience such as applause and "boo's" for Obama's policies. She reacted well to the feedback considering that the audience was constantly applauding and cheering, which was taking time from the speech. Even though the feedback prolonged her speech, it was good feedback. She pumped up the crowd when she spoke of her family and circumstances that many families face which helped many people, especially women, relate to her.

I also enjoyed the humor incorporated in her speech. The humor did not include any profanity and was easy to understand by any one who was listening to her speech.
The overall delivery, shared experiences and humor made this speech an entertaining one.

All political viewpoints aside, Sara Palin’s address to America was nothing less than superb. She did nothing but support herself and her views in every way possible. Her experience and preparation in the area of public speaking was very apparent in many different ways. First, Palin’s body language was in my opinion very strong. Many times she leaned forward slightly, allowing the audience to feel included. Her hand gestures were subtle yet strong and commanded much attention. Her face lit up upon her audience’s positive response, and her smile and laughing eyes conveyed an obvious love for her chosen field of work. In addition, the conviction in her voice when supporting McCain conveyed a sense of knowing her the topic of her speech to the best of her ability. With her statement “…No leader in America has shown these qualities so clearly or present so clear a threat to business as usual in Washington as Senator John McCain.” She makes eye contact with all members of the audience at this point and raises a strong finger in the air to support her statement.

Her delivery style was also captivating. With smooth transitions, she was able to keep the audience attentive and interested. She was extremely informative about herself and what her plans for improving our nation are. Unlike McCain’s more-often-than-not reading his speech at the podium, Palin’s was contrarily well rehearsed yet did not seem contrived or monotonous; it remained conversational until the very end. A simple vocabulary adorned the speech, allowing the audience to feel as though they understood what she was saying.

One of the few flaws I was able to pinpoint would be her extremely annoying accent. She seems to overly stress her A’s, creating a whiny affect. I understand that nobody is perfect and that many different accents exist within the U.S., but she should really look into some speech classes to try to work on that…it’s pretty annoying. But overall, without that small amount of negative critique, Palin’s speech was overall applaudable in my eyes.

Durning Sarah Palin speech intrigued me. The way she spoke made me believe that she was turly honored. Her voice had sincerity and that she was extremely proud of being nominated. She related to her audience and said things her audience could realate to. She was recieving tons of positive feed back. After every few statements her auidence would aplaud and reasure her that she was doing amazing.
Throughout the performance i was listening to her main points and how she believes McCain would be and excelent president. That he actually fought for America and is experience. I listened to her point of views on the Obama campaign eventhough it was a little harsh. i believe all the bashing wasnt nescessary, but she was just trying to appeal to her audience which were republicans.
The content was extremely easy to fallow. There were people from all over the country tunning in and she mad it simple enough so everyone could understand.
I thought her body language was very conservative. she didnt move around alot but her facial expressions were great. She gave the impression of being proud, excited and proud of her new position.
When she introduced her family i thought that it was great. it shows that she is family oriented and that is major points in my book. but she did go into a little too much detail about her family. overall it was a fantastic speech she raltated to alot of people and engaged her audience.

This assignment was a tough one for me personally. I'm a deep- rooted democrat and it was hard not to judge her without a bias but I tried my best.
Palin was rather dry. Her delivery was very staccato. Her applause pauses were a killer. They were too long. I caught myself asking why am I watching her quite often.
Even though her vocabulary was comprehensible it could be a double edged sword. She should tried to stress her intelligence a little more because the importance of the vice- presidency shouldn't be given to the incompotent.
Her family life was her redeeming quality for me. It was really relatable it showed the she is a regular person just like people in my community.
Personally she is the only reason I would even consider voting republican. I really like her, she isn't the best speaker but I didn't fall asleep either. Removing myself from the situation she made valid points and overall performance was decent.

Sarah Palin's speech was good she introduced herself to the public by talking about her family life and her being a governor.Sarah Palin gestures were at times closed she used her index finger to point to the audience. She did so probably to emphasize her point, but to those that do not agree with her point of view could have took it as condensending.

However, she did very well with her clarity and choice of words. During her speech her pauses were good. She paused instead of using filler words. Sarah Palin speech appeared genuine at times for example when she was talking about her family, her eyes lit up and her smile seemed real. Her tone of voice was good every heard her when she spoke. Overall her speech was and she is a very good public speaker.

I was listening to Palin supporting her partner McCain in speaking very highly of him. She explained why McCain was the better candidate as opposed to Obama because Obama's promises lacked substance.

Her style and delivery was smooth but she showed no body language only the emotion in her voice. She was very stiff at the podium limiting herself to pointing a finger at her audience.

Her content was filled with substance proof and facts about what McCain did for this country and how much more McCain was in tune with the problems of the U.S.

She didn't use much humor and stuck to a more serious emotional tone. She sought not to embarrass her opponent but to show that her partner was a better candidate. She adapts her message to the audience by saying that McCain fought for his country and that Obama never did. This was useful strategy for her audience because as Republicans the majority support the war.

I was mostly listening for sincerity in Sarah Palin's speech. In the beginning of her speech her voice sounded sincere but her body language did'nt match the emotion she was trying to portray. She stood stiff as she spoke instead of using the slightest hand gesture.

She did not have the best eye contact, her eyes seemed to be primarily focused on the immediate right and left of her. The people seated in front of her and above her hardley received any eye contact. The only time she really used good hand gestures was when she states that "I was just your average hockey mom". She uses a great deal of humor to aid her in hr speech. This was one of the main ways she made connections with her audiance.

Sarah Palin's speech at the Republican National Convention was enthusiastic, understandable, relatable, and passionate.
Throughout the speech she stuck to the main topic of the speech which was to relate to the audience, try to inform and persuade them on why they should vote for herself and John McCain.
She relate to hockey moms, working moms, farmers, and parents with children who have Down's Syndrome.
She informed the audience about what exactly it was that McCain was proposing for the American people.
I felt that she had good eye contact; she looked around the room, not just in one general area.
It seemed like she was really trying to connect with her audience.
Throughout the speech she changed the projection of her voice which added emphasis to the main points. She also added humor; for instance, the joke about hockey moms, "they say the only difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull is lipstick."
Her use of language was understandable. She wanted to make her points clear; I feel that she succeeded in doing so. Although there were times when I felt that she was getting off topic; for example, when she talked about her husband and his fishing trips. Just because her husband fishes doesn't really make me want to vote for her and McCain.
I was captivated by her beauty and self confidence. She knew when she was making a good point because she would raise her voice. Her body language was great she didn't move around too much she used her hands for emphasis.
When the audience would cheer and clap, she would pause and wait until they were quiet enough so they could hear her before she continued talking. I felt that the pauses also created more feeling because it allowed the audience time to process what she said.
Palin ended the speech by reminding the audience what McCain proposes and why the democrats are not a good decision. Overall I felt the speech was very effective in delivering her message.

In reference to the quality of Sarah Palin’s speech, there is no doubt she spoke well, introduced herself and others well, and spoke clearly. In my opinion, her body language was good because she displayed a sense of power when she spoke and used her body language technique. She looked around the whole room when she spoke, which gave listeners a feeling of importance as she attempted to leave no one out in the message she sought to portray.
However, there were more negative comments on my behalf than positive ones. For instance, to me, she showed minimal signs of enthusiasm because though she would raise and lower her voice to catch her audiences’ attention, she was monotone. My reason for this statement is because she kept the same tone when she spoke loudly as well as when she spoke normally. I did not even need to physically be part of her audience to feel boredom. Another example would be her digressions. Though she had a good introduction, I felt she spoke too much about her family and history. Whenever she spoke about something important that was occurring in the America, she went right back into speaking about how great her family is. As for me and I’m sure other people in America, we would only like to know about your family to know what are your values and what kind of a person you are. However, when we (the audience) have established that, we do not want to hear anymore about the matter because now we want to know what you and your running mate will do for “we the people.” She did wake some people up with some jokes (“difference between a hockey mom and pit bulls”), yet personally they were not enough to keep me intertwined with her message. All in all, her speech was fair but very boring because the parts that matter the most to me and to many other people who are looking for the same information as I am, dosing off because she obsessively speaks about her family which is important but her job is to speak about the future of America.

To start, I thought Sarah Pallin’s total speech delivery was great, from the words in front of her all the way to the audience participation. I can say her style is no different than any others, but it works for her. In her performance I was listening for variation in voice pattern, confidence, accurate language, and energy. I liked the way she used her voice in so many ways, which was a plus. She had a different tone for every one of her points. When she first started her speech she declared her acceptance which showed that she knew what she was doing, you could tell she was confident. I really didn’t pay much attention to her language, but I know that she was really using a lot of big words that I don’t know. I wouldn’t say that’s bad because maybe her audience knew what she was talking about, but I didn’t. Sarah’s energy was high. I didn’t agree much with the content of her speech. To me she went off topic at times, and then jumped back into what she really needed to be talking about. She talked too much about her family and tried to relate it to her speech, which didn’t work for me. Her nonverbal communication was okay. She pointed her finger too much which kind of threw me off at times. But her eye contact was great; she looked at all of her audience at least one time in her speech. Sarah’s humor to me was a bit much, although it did break the silence in parts of her speech. Her comedy made the audience comfortable with her, and in turn also made her comfortable standing up there.

1. Was the topic appropriate for the assignment?
-The topic was appropriate because she was supposed to be selling herself and John McCain as the best possible choices for the white house and she stayed on topic the entire time.

2. Was the general and specific purpose of the speech clear?
-The purpose was clear because she used clear ideas and she spoke in a language that her audience could understand and she stayed on topic.

3. Did the speaker use strong supporting material to present the speech's core idea?
-Yes because the speaker was often times speaking from experience in dealing with politics and she also use her own personal experiences and tied them in as well.

4. Did the speaker use clear, interesting, and accurate language?
- Yes the speaker used language that was appropriate in that situation, but she also sound relatable and friendly.

5. Did the speaker make an effort to analyze the audience and adopt the speech to its needs?
-Yes a specific example was when she talked about being a hockey mom, and made a reference to all the hockey moms in the audience. She even made a joke.

6. Was the speech effectively organized?
-Yes the speech was effectively organized, because Palin moved through each of her points smoothly, and all her ideas connected. It was very easy for the audience to follow.

7. Did the speaker appear confident and self controlled?
-The speaker appeared very confident when she spoke. She looked out on the crowd many times and she often had a friendly expression. Sometimes however when she was being really enthusiastic, it seemed like she was barring her teeth a little bit which I felt worked in this particular case.

8. Was the quality of the speaker's voice acceptable?
Yes the speaker spoke loud and clear, and at times when she was making a point she would make her voice go up and down but you could always hear her.

9. Did the speaker's body language create meaning?
-Yes the speaker stood up tall and looked confident. She also spoke with her hands and one time even balled her fists, which showed her emotion and passion for what she was saying.

10. Did the speaker look for and respond to feedback?
-When ever Palin made a point, she would hold for applause. Also, you could tell when she was really about to make an important point because her voice would rise and then it would end with a standing ovation.

I felt that Sarah Palin was a very effective speaker and she knew and related to her audience very well. Even though I am not republican, I could understand the points she was making and could kind of agree with some of the things she was saying.

She kept her audience interested throughout the speech by using a mixture of sincere emotion and humor. She was able to touch some people when she spoke of her family and her special needs son, and she was able to keep the interested when she used humor by telling jokes. By admitting that she dealt with family issues and challenges, but not making herself a victim, you could sympathize, empathize, and appreciate her more. By also admitting to the fact that she was a hockey mom, she sounded like a normal person that you could identify with.

She built up her credibility and popularity among her audience by telling of the things she did when she held the position as governor for her home town. She also built up and McCain, by pointing to mistakes and the shortcomings of her opponents. She pointed out things that they have said in their campaigns with a lot of emotion and it got the audience fired up.

All in all I felt that Sarah Palin was a very effective speaker. She used just the right amount of emotion, and wit to entertain the audience while still getting her message across.

As I watched the speech it began well with informing us about her accepting the nomination of Vice President. But as she began to proceed, she spoke more of the attacks made to her and her running mate and how he was the best choice for president. I was expecting to hear more of what she has to offer, which is why i rated her purpose clearity as satisfactory.

When she listed her facts in her speech she did use quotes and experience for credibility. But as she spoke about her personal experience with running a state to being a soccor mom, she related to the audience. The only down fall with the relation, was that there are city people who are also voting, and would like her to relate to them too. Palin did speak in a way that everyone could understand. Her eye contact was constant. But she did take a look at the camera after she made her attacks at the opposite party. She knew her audience and how to connect with them, which also played a key part in her feedback. At times the feedback was overwhelming to the point where she had to stop her speech to make sure everyone heard what she was saying. This made the speech longer and drawn out.

Palin's body language was very still until the audience began clappping, in which she swayed some to pass time, and when she pointed her finger when she was emphasizing the other party. She attempted some humor when she stated a disagreement with a topic.

She comes off as a serious person who is ready to take on a task, which is good for the situation. I think she was comfortable speaking to the audience which gave her confidence to finish the speech. Overall her speech was accomplishing in allowing people to see who she was running with and why they should pick their party.

Sarah Palin delievered a speech that was direct, relatable, and most fitting. Sarah started off by statin McCain's ideas. this informed me on hoe informed she was. She then went on to discuss her family to the audience on a more personalable level. She has a downsydrome baby and a son going to Iraq. She definitely appealed to a large porportion of her audience. I'm sure many mothers and sisters and wives could relate. I've learned as a speaker one should truly connect with the audience; in result of expressing how sincere you are, you will gain the audiences' trust. And she appealed to her audience and clearly gained their trust. This topic was approiate for that reason alone. The general purpose, which is to inform and persuade America in choosing McCain was accomplished. Palin explain that someone such as McCain given his past experience is what this nation needs. By using his past experience as supporting material she earns crediblity, in return she gains our trust.

Her voice was very confident and stern. This confidence held my attention but the stern monotoneness bored me. The speech, I must say was very organized and put together. She went from introducing herself, to her family, to attacking Obama. I noticed she took long pauses do to the feedback recieved. Since I am using the Internet as the mass communication during her speech I was ditracted by it. But as I read in Chapter 4, clapping and chanting is a form of feedback and in the case very positive. She waited for the feedback and embraced. This in return forced her to project more, with self-controll. I really like how she used humor in her sppech."...The only differnece between a soccor mom and a pitbull...lipstick." This grasped me further into her speech and encouraged me to listen.

I really disliked the fact that she kind of blabbered on about your family to much. At first it was adorable, but as her words went on so did my mind-to other places. Her body looked very stiff. I noticed she did point at time and that enforced her words as well as my "want" to listen.

The one thing that will stick out to me in Palin's speech is this, "If character is a meassure in this election, and hope the theme, and change the gaol we share, then i ask you to join our cause. Join our cause and help America elect a great man as the next president of the United States. Thank you and God Bless American."

I BELIEVE SARAH PALIN'S SPEECH WAS AMAZING. EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT AGREE WITH WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY MOST OF THE TIME, SHE DEFINITELY SHOWS A PASSION FOR WHAT SHE BELIEVES IN

IN HER PERFORMANCE I LISTENED TO HER MOSTLY ATTACKING BARACK OBAMA'S IDEALS AND CAMPAIGN STRATEGIES. I ALSO LISTENED TO HER SPEAK ON WHY McCAIN WOULD BE THE PERFECT CANDIDATE FOR THE WHITE HOUSE.

HER STYLE SEEMED VERY FORCEFUL. SHE AT TIMES POINTED HER FINGER TO MAKE A POINT LIKE HILLARY CLINTON. I ALSO HEARD HER STRESS HER WORDS, WHICH MADE THE SPEECH MORE EFFECTIVE. SHE ALSO LEFT SOME PAUSES FOR THE AUDIENCE TO CLAP, SHE WAS VERY POLITE WHEN THE AUDIENCE OUT OF NO WHERE CHEERS FOR HER STANCE. HER DELIVERY WAS EFFECTIVE, SHE DEFINITELY MADE AN IMPRESSION ON MANY PEOPLE THAT WILL LAST FOR A LONG TIME!

THE CONTENT OF THE SPEECH CONSISTED OF BASICALLY INTRODUCING HERSELF AND HER FAMILY, AND ALSO ATTACKING BARACK OBAMA.

AT MOMENTS I WAS EVALUATING HER WITH HER NONVERBAL MOVEMENTS, SUCH AS THE POINTING OF THE FINGER. SHE WAS JUST STANDING THERE AND THE ONLY HAND MOVEMENTS I SAW WAS POINTING WHICH WAS HARSH IN MY FROM OF REFERENCE.

SHE EXPRESSES HER SELF BUY USING HUMOR AND MAKING SARCASTIC REMARKS. THEY WHERE PRETTY FUNNY I MIGHT ADD, THE FELL WELL INTO HER SPEECH. YOU CAN DEFINITELY TELL THAT THESE JOKES WERE REHEARSED.

SHE ADAPTED HER SPEECH TO THE AUDIENCE BY SPEAKING TO THEM RATHER THAN ABOVE THEM. SHE MADE JOKES, AND SHE ALSO STRESSED HER WORDS WHICH MADE EVERYONE LISTEN MORE TO HER SPEECH.

PALIN WAS VERY ARTICULATE. SHE USED LANGUAGE THAT EVERYONE COULD UNDERSTAND.

I MUST SAY IT WAS A VERY IMPRESSIONABLE SPEECH, THAT HAS MADE ME THINK TWICE ABOUT HOW I SHOULD VOTE FOR THIS COMING FALL.

Sarah Palin speech performance of may not have been the most magnificant speech that i have ever took the time to actually listen and be able to grasp and understand what the apeaker was saying and where the speaker was coming, nevertheless she did do her job and i did in then end knew what she was all about as the rpublican V.P. there was a few things I liked about her as a speaker, she had good eye contact, and very clear speaking quality. i must admit she did seem a bit dull she present any genuine passion for what she was speaking, no doubt she was for everthing she was saying, but i do doubt her passion anything she was discussing. In some ways her topics did not seem very respectfull or mature towards her oppnent Obama. I understand the hole point of the speech was highlight the good of the republican and darken the name and everything the stand for in relations to the democrates. Her sarcrasm and blatent disrespect cause her credibility as an honest and responsible politian to go down. This was a turnoff to me and cause my brain to became to turn to numerous of places and distracted me from the the task at hand which was listening to her speech. Most of her slogans or catch phrases did not stick with me at all even though I just watch this speech a couple of minutes ago I can not say I can accuratly quote her in relations to something that caught my attetion and cause me think and ponder about this speech. Truthfully if I did not recieve a homework assignment for bloging on the speech in the next hour i would probably forget everything Sarah Palin stood for. One last thing that was an error in her speech was her pausing. It seemed to me as if she was trying to gather her thoughts together and was not prepared fully because of the paused long drag. This also brought her credibility down cause it showed me if she can prepare a speech ro the best of her ability how can she prepare a plan of action that can accuratly effect America that causes a change for the better.

Sarah Palin's speech at the Republican National Convention was passionate, and relatable. The main topic of the speech was to relate to the audience, try to inform and persuade them on why they should vote for her and John McCain. In one of her points she made an inference to working moms, farmers, and parents with children who have Down's syndrome. Palin let the audience know about what exactly it was that McCain is trying to offer for the American people. I believed that she had good eye contact; she looked around the room, not just focused in one spot. It seemed like she was really trying to make a good connection with the audience. Throughout the speech she changed the pitch of her voice which stressed her main points. She also added humor; for example, the joke about hockey moms, "they say the only difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull is lipstick."
Sarah’s use of language was very clear. She wanted to make her points clear; I feel as though that she did a great job in doing that. I was very fascinated by her beauty and confidence. She knew when she was making a good point because she would raise the pitch of her voice. Palin’s body language was great she didn't move around too much but her hand gestures made up for it. When the audience would cheer and clap, she would pause and wait until they were done so they could hear her before she continued. I felt that the pauses also created more feeling because it allowed the audience time to process what she said. Sarah Palin concluded her speech by reassuring the people what McCain had to offer and why the democrats are not a good decision. I personally felt as though that the speech was exceptional and definitely got the message across to the people.

When I began watching Sarah Palin's speech, the first thing that caught my attention was how long she waited before she started to speak. I'm not sure if its normal to allow the audience to applaud for that long, but to me personally it came off as if she was afraid to control her audience, or didn't know how. Once she finally began speaking, after three minutes of applauding, I noticed that she had poor body language. The pointing of her finger was a distraction as well as the fact that she seemed stiff. This led me to believe that she was not comfortable with being up in front of the audience. I also realized that while speaking she would pause for the audience's response. Even though this is a form of feedback I feel like she could have done it a little differently. There was time that really stood out to me. It appeared to me that she raced to finish her sentence, because it seemed like she was eager for the audience's hand claps. The way she did it made it seem as if she need the audience's applause to make her feel confident about what she was saying, where as she should already feel confident and believe in the message she's giving. This made it hard for me to focus on what she saying, I feel like if she doesn't believe what she's saying then why should I. Another thing that caused me to lose interest during her speech, was the that in my opinion, she talked too much about her home life in the beginning. It's nice that she acknowledged them, but it could have been shorter. If I had watched this speech the day it aired on my own, I would have turned the channel, because I felt as though i didn't need to know all of that.

The things that I did like about Sarah Palin's speech was, her use of language. She used words that I could understand. While watching I didn't get distracted by trying to figure out what certain words meant. For a person like me, who isn't big on vocabulary this was good, because the they have more time to focus on the message. The one thing that her family, however was good for, was when she needed to connect McCain, her son, and the war. I liked how she tried to related to average human, by stating how she was a hockey mom, and part of the PTA, etc. This would have caught the attention the average parent or even person who cared about society and its youth. She made it seem like she was just like me and you, and she even states that yes her family had ups and downs. For some people this might have been a pro, but for others they might have took it as just a way for her to indirectly address the fact that she has a 17 year daughter pregnant, even though she is highly for abstinence. Lastly, her appearance was neat and appropriate for the occasion, which was good and appealing to the eye. In addition, she came off to be nice and friendly through her smile and facial expressions but still sometimes I felt as though she was forcing it, especially with the pointing of the finger. Overall I didn't think that she was such a great speaker, but I feel that she just needs a couple of minor improvements and with practice, in time she will get better.

In Sarah Palin’s performance, I listened to her try to persuade America that both she and Senator Mc Cain are the best candidates for the future leaders of America. She spoke very highly of Senator Mc Cain, while showing how she is a very down to earth and normal American citizen. She tried to show how she and her family started as an average American family by stating that she’s a hockey mom, and how she worked her way up to higher positions, starting by joining the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at her children’s public school.

Sarah Palin also tries to prove that she and Mc Cain are better candidates by comparing themselves to their opponent. She makes it evident that she fully supports the war and hopes for victory and Senator Obama doesn’t care about victory but rather he wants to pull out of the war.

Palin spoke confidently and her delivery is quite strong. She uses hand gestures in order to show that she means what she is saying. She spoke clearly and slowly in order to be clearly understood and to get her point across. Her speech is very personable. Palin had a very good body posture and seemed very comfortable in front of her audience and very relaxed and looks very professional.

Palin tries to get her audience to relate to her through empathy. She uses emotion through her personal experiences such as her special needs son to reach to families with children of special needs to try to persuade her audience that she faces regular everyday challenges that other citizens may experience as well.

DON'T LET GO!

Hold my hand, don't let me fall down

The abyss ahead is too neverending to try and walk around

Pull me closer, into a sweet kiss

So if I do fall

It won't be in loneliness

Touch me and whisper those notions of lust

Jus cling to me so tightly that I'll have no choice but to trust

The force of my thrust

Can evoke a quake more potent than that of the crashing of crusts

Will our acquaintance make a mountain?

A pure and tastefully delicious fountain?

Look me in the eyes and confess your love so truthfully sincere

To light up my day by opening my ears

Vanquish my shattered heart's fears

For you I hold dear

My mind is now clear

We are in the prenatal process

But the full enamoration will forever be revered

And if you ever wish to let me go

Look me in the eyes and tell me so

So I can go back to square one

The square before our love begun

To have lived in a love so divine

Would have been fun

Hate has lost

Where fondness has won

Please mind my wounded soul

And punctured heart

It may take time but we'll reach our goal

Passionately affectionate we will never part

and build on this pre-historic art

But only if u hold my hand and don't let me fall down

Cuz this abyss of loneliness possesses not a ground
